Product Description

Producer note: Like his neighbor Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau, Vincent Boyer also produced simply terrific wines in 2013 and 2014 while describing the latter vintage as "another vintage where we had significant amounts of hail damage and in particular the hillside terroirs were really hit hard. We lost between 30 and 60% of our potential crop but there is no easy way to generalize as the damage was quite localized meaning that some parcels were really smacked hard but another one in the same area escaped with minor damage. I chose to begin picking on the 15th of September and brought in super clean fruit that required very little in the way of sorting. Potential alcohols were in the 12 to 13% range with good acidities. I didn't do much lees stirring as I thought that the richness would come with time in barrel and as it turned out I'm happy with that decision. As to the wines they wonderfully fresh and bright with unusually clean transparency to the underlying terroir. They have sufficient mid-palate fat that they should be accessible young but given the bright acidities, should age well too." Boyer noted that he bottled the 2014s in August 2015.

"There is enough reduction present today that I would advise decanting this first if you're going to try a bottle in its youth. Otherwise there is excellent volume and richness to the full-bodied and powerful yet caressing flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also does a fine job of buffering the relatively firm acid spine shaping the sleek and focused finale. While this could be enjoyed young I would be more inclined to hold it for at least 5 years first to allow for better depth to develop even though I stress that this is already admirably complex. In a word, lovely. Burghound 93 points."

"Bright yellow. Very closed nose hints at minerals and white pepper. A pepper bomb in the mouth: broad, fine-grained and dry, with lovely intensity to the white peach, lemon and lime flavors. The long finish refreshes the palate with saline dusty minerality. A terrific vintage for this bottling--capable of extended aging but not austere today." Stephen Tanzer 92+ points.
