Home > Type > White Wine > Franz Hirtzberger Spitzer Rotes Tor Grüner Veltliner Federspiel 2015 [VM 93]
Product Description
“Based on multiple pickings from late September through the third week of October, this reflects a diverse array of crunchy, nutty and peppery greens ranging from spinach through cress. An upwelling of roasted lentil and turnip informs the satiny palate, with apple and honeydew suggesting sweetness while supplying refreshing juiciness. The superbly sustained finish is strikingly transparent to stony, crystalline mineral impingements. An ore-like glow there marries beautifully to low-toned vegetable elements, while peppery nips of cress and crunch of leafy greens provide persistent invigoration. This classic of its genre joins a long line of Hirtzberger Rotes Tor Federspiel bottlings that deliver in their own distinctive way every bit as much intrigue and pleasure as a top-notch Smaragd, and that age terrifically, too. But this particular bottling belongs near the head of the aforementioned line, and for reasons other than simply being the most recent!” Vinous 93 Points
“Subtle pear fruit and just a touch smoky. The acidity is relatively gentle but sufficient for the depth and richness here – surprisingly rich for a Federspiel. Some spice on the palate and a lovely creamy texture.” Jancis Robinson 16.5 Points
“From several vineyards in Spitz, the 2015 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Rotes Tor is Hirtzberger's commercially most important wine. The 2015 is an intense and refreshing wine with a good body, ripe fruit aromas, a piquant acidity and a pretty complex and salty, well-structured finish. A pretty powerful Federspiel with a good finish.” Wine Advocate
